About our school

Mawarra Public School is situated in an attractive environment of 2.6 hectares overlooking the rich alluvial flood plain of the Nepean River adjacent to the town of Camden.

"Mawarra" is an Aboriginal word for "a most pleasant place". We have a proud tradition of providing experiences for our students in Choir, Sport and Public Speaking/Debating, Chess club, Drama club and Art club our students can learn an instrument in our School Band facilitated by Murray Bishop Music, during school in our school hall.

The school has an excellent Student Welfare program and an active Learning Support Team. Our facilities include a multi-purpose hall for performances, assemblies and many extra-curricular activies for our students including the school band, dance groups and cheerleading. We hold many external and amazing performances/incursions throughout the year for the whole school to interact and enjoy adding to the love of learning in the childrens curriculum goals.

We promote positive playground behaviour through a social skills program, teaching special playground games and a focus on our Anti-Bullying Policy. We also offer before and after school care.

Mawarra is proud of an excellent literacy program K-6 that begins with guided reading in the early years then leading onto "Reading Counts" (Lexiles) in the primary years. "Count Me In Too" is an important part of our Number programs K-6.

Our mission is to ensure that students achieve personal excellence. This is achieved through: quality teaching; quality learning; and a happy, caring and secure environment.

At Mawarra, we have a very interested and informed school community who provide enormous support to the school through its Parents and Citizens' Association and classroom helpers.

Acknowledgement of Country

Here we gather, on traditional land today

On Dharawal Country, we learn and play

With our First Nation people, we walk hand in hand

As we care for Country, sky, river and land

We would like to say thank you, for letting us share

The land that you love, of which we promise to take care

School Pledge

This is our school.

Let love abide here.

Let peace dwell here.

Let us love one another,

As we love life itself.

Let us remember that,

As many hands build a house,

So many hearts make a school

School song

1. Here we stand now to sing of Mawarra,

Where the people are young and free,

Where we strive in our daily endeavour,

To let our light shine out for all to see.

Chorus:

Let your light shine, let your light shine,

Let your light shine out for all to see,

Let your light shine, let your light shine,

Let it shine for you and me.

2. A most pleasant place is Mawarra,

Where we grow as the grapes once grew,

Where we learn and prepare for the future,

And we strive to serve in all we do.
