What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

Intellectual Domain

Students engage in rich, challenging learning experiences that promote critical thinking, creativity, and high expectations for achievement.
Examples include, but are not exhaustive:

  • Explicit and differentiated teaching and learning programs that extend all students
  • Rigorous assessment practices that identify growth, inform teaching, and celebrate achievement
  • Participation in academic competitions including ICAS and Brain Strain Challenges
  • Public Speaking and Debating Competitions that build confidence and persuasive communication
  • Leadership development programs that empower students to take initiative and lead with purpose.
Physical Domain

Students are encouraged to pursue their physical potential through teamwork, perseverance, and skill development.
Examples include, but are not exhaustive:

  • Explicit teaching of gross motor skills for all students, linking movement, coordination, and participation in team sports
  • Sporting pathways from school to national level representation
  • Knockout competitions in netball, soccer, hockey, Oztag, AFL, and NRL
  • Sporting clinics in AFL, basketball, and softball
  • Cheerleading – both school-based and competitive teams
  • Bocce interschool competition fostering inclusion and teamwork.
Social-Emotional Domain

Building empathy, resilience, and leadership is central to our culture of belonging and connection.
Examples include, but are not exhaustive:

  • Senior Boys’ Mentoring Program, building character, leadership, and positive role modelling
  • Buddy Classes (K–6) strengthening relationships and empathy across year levels
  • Student leadership pathways including Class Captains, Sports Captains, and SRC
  • Leadership Days that develop confidence, initiative, and teamwork
  • Camden Challenge Cup promoting collaboration and school pride
  • Garden Club providing opportunities for responsibility, reflection, and teamwork.
Creative Domain

Student talent in the creative arts is evident across the school, with opportunities that foster imagination, innovation, and self-expression.
Examples include, but are not exhaustive:

  • Specialised Art Program (K–6) led by a specialist art teacher
  • Participation in local and national art competitions, including the Endangered Species Art Competition
  • Involvement in the Digital Technology Arts Alive Program
  • Wakakirri performances showcasing storytelling through dance and drama
  • Junior and Senior Choirs performing at school and community events.
